Appendix B: A Biblical Foundation

The foundations of beliefs are all-important. The movement's foundation is new revelation. God, however, has revealed His written word, the Bible, as the authority and guide He has provided for us, the bedrock of truth we can build our lives upon.

Our God does not ''have'' truth, He is truth! (Jn 1:14, 3:33, 18:37; Eph 4:21 Rev 3:7, 19:11.)

And, His character is absolutely consistent. God is not learning, growing, or evolving- He is, has always been, and will always be God- complete, perfect, holy.

He has never been 'less' true, and He will never be 'more' true. He is at all times true, from eternity past to eternity future.

We talk about people who are ''good for their word.'' Because God is truth, He is absolutely good for His word. He is totally consistent, His character never changes (Heb 13:8). Therefore, He cannot disagree with Himself- He cannot disagree with His written word. His word stands entirely faithful in all ways.

God is not a man, that He should lie... Num 23:19

...it is impossible for God to lie... Heb 6:18

Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant... Dt 7:9

1. God's Word is unchanging, pure and true:

Isa 40:8, The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

Ps 12:6, The words of the Lord are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.

Jn 17:14-17, ''I have given them Thy word ...Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth.''

2. His Word is alive and powerful:

Isaiah 55:11, ''.. My word .. which goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.''

Heb 4:12-13, For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

1Thes 2:13 ...the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

3. Jesus and His Word are one:

Jn 1:1, 14, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us

Jn 14:23, Jesus answered and said to him, ''If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word''

Rev 19:13, And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God.

Mk 8:38, For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words ...the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes...''

4. His Word was written for our benefit:

Ps 119:105, Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.

1 Cor 10:11, Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction...

5. The Place of God's Word in the Christian Life:

Isa 66:2 ...to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.

Jn 8:31, Jesus therefore was saying ... ''If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine''

2 Tim 2:15, Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.

Acts 17:11, Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.

1 Pet 2:2 ...long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.

2 Tim 3:14-17, You, however, continue in ... the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Col 3:16, Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you

1 Tim 4:6 ...a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

6. We are forbidden to add our words to His!

Deut 4:2, You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it...

Prov 30:5-6, Every word of God is tested... Do not add to His words, Lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar.

Rev 22:18, I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book.
