The Bible: God's Revelation to Us

God has chosen to reveal Himself to us through the means of a book. This was His choice to make and this was His choice.

He gave us His word and said: read it, get to know it, long for it as a baby longs for milk, abide in it, let it richly dwell within you, be nourished by it, study it diligently, be instructed by it, let it equip you and train you, for it is here that you will learn of Me - - ((1Pet 2:2, Jn 8:31, Col 3:16, 1Tim 4:6, 2Tim 2:15, 1Cor 10:11, 2Tim 3:17, Jn 5:39.)

The Bible is no ordinary book. It is supernatural. God has empowered it to accomplish His will - -

My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Isa 55:11

...for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and abiding word of God. 1Pet 1:23

...the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Heb 4:12

...the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance... Acts 20:32

...the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. 1Thes 2:13

This is not what I, or some other person says about the Bible. This is what God says. To set it aside, and insist that He communicate to us instead through direct revelation, feeling experiences, or any other means, is actually sin- it is rebellion against God's chosen way.

It is not that He never communicates with us any other way, but He has told us very clearly that He has chosen to reveal Himself and His truth, and supply our spiritual needs, primarily through the means of this book, the Bible. He never suggested that this would change, but He did say that people would change, that they would become tired of His word and turn away from it:

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work... preach the word... For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. 2 Tim 3:16-4:4

If you have been misled into setting the Bible aside and seeking God through personal revelations, won't you turn back to His good, pure word?

Revive me according to Thy word... Strengthen me according to Thy word... Establish Thy word to Thy servant, as that which produces reverence for Thee... Be gracious to me according to Thy word... may Thy lovingkindness comfort me, according to Thy word... Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path... Sustain me according to Thy word, that I may live. Establish my footsteps in Thy word... Give me understanding according to Thy word. Ps 119:25, 28, 38, 58, 76, 105, 116, 133, 169
