Apologetics Index: Research resources on religious movements, cults, sects, world religions and related issues
There was a time when I was very much into Benny Hinn. I bought his books, tried to attend his crusades, and sent money because I thought he was an anointed man of God.
It took me a long time to learn that I did not need him or anyone else for me to have an ever closer walk with God. I long thought people like Hinn had special revelations and insight from God but that simply is not so. You just *think* they are more spiritual than you are, but they are not. The Apologetics Index web site helped me get out from under his influence. At first some of the articles and links ticked me off but then I saw how I had been misled.
I feel sad for the people who still follow Benny Hinn.
My son had cancer and in the very last stages of the disease…I took him to a Benny Hinn crusade. My son’s face was deformed from the tumor and I’m sure it was shocking to people who saw him. My disappointment came when no one from his team would even speak to us or offer to pray with us as they were doing with everybody else. It was then I realized that these crusades were motivated not by compassion and the Holy Spirit but monetary gain. It is heartwrenching having people of the “name it, claim it” movement tell you your son died because of a lack of faith. My heart breaks for the people who follow him and those like him.
Jeremiah 5:26-31 (NLT) “Among my people are wicked men who lie in wait for victims like a hunter hiding in a blind. They continually set traps to catch people. Like a cage filled with birds, their homes are filled with evil plots. And now they are great and rich. They are fat and sleek, and there is no limit to their wicked deeds. They refuse to provide justice to orphans and deny the rights of the poor. Should I not punish them for this?” says the LORD. “Should I not avenge Myself against such a nation? A horrible and shocking thing has happened in this land–the prophets give false prophecies, and the priests rule with an iron hand. Worse yet, my people like it that way! But what will you do when the end comes?”
Hey guys I noticed something common in all of the ‘whiners’. You used to worship Hinn
instead of God. That is the source of your disappointment.
Thank you
It is quite remarkable that the two comments posted above failed to mention Hinn’s heretical teachings and false prophecies issued over the years he has been in the public arena, matters far worse than his ignoring sick people at his crusade farce and on his tv shows. With the recent arrest of the Salazar brothers in California for doing the same things Hinn does, he might want to prepare for a little time in the slammer himself.
To the folks at ReligionNewsBlog and Apologeticsindex, thanks for all your hard work and diligent research into such matters.
I had the misfortune of reading Hinn’s book, Good Morning Holy Spirit, as a young adult (and a young Christian). I knew within the first few chapters that something was terribly wrong with this man’s doctrine. Since that time, I’ve occasionally read transcripts of Hinn’s programs where he has claimed time and again that God has spoken to him about this or that and would wipe out the population of homosexuals by XX date, or bring judgement on this social group by such time. If God is telling him these things and they DON’T come to pass – who is the liar? Not God! People need to be informed and remain prayerful and in the Word of God. The Bible is the source of truth; teaching to the contrary should be a red flag. All of the deceived followers of Hinn obviously don’t read the Bible or they would run, not walk away from him and his false teaching.

The above quote sums it up…I too was a member of Benny’s church. When I went into the mission field and heard “real men of God” I threw away my bible with all the false teachings written in the margins that had come from St. Benny’s teachings. Hey guys, read the Bible and learn the truth.
Mr. Ababan…you called me a whiner…is that how Jesus would respond to me? I was sharing about my son’s impending death…I’m not a theologin…I’m just a mom. I love the Lord with all my heart and I read my Bible everyday. I pray you never have to see someone you love suffer the way my son suffered. When you are ugly and call people names…you lose your witness. That makes me sad.
There are many more who are spreading this dangerous word, they include Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Rodney Howard-Browne, Benny Hinn, Morris Cerullo, David Yonggi Cho, Rick Joyner, Randy Clark, Dale Mast, Robert Tilton, Joyce Meyer, Paul Cain, John Wimber, Bill Yount, Bryan Lake, Joel Osteen and Mike Bickel. Sadly almost all of your heavy hitting televangelists and “Teachers” are NOT saved. How could they be and live as they do?
Benny Hinn has a very powerful ministry, lots of people give, and he has written scores of books to enable people to learn more about Christ.
Many people are hurting and vunerable, they need healing and so they look to mature Christian people for help.
When people are desperate they will look to anything that will offer a glimmer of hope.
Whether for bad or good, Benny Hinn has got a ministry supported by many churches, and some people have found blessing others have recieved confusion and pain.
I do not know him to comment, but I would never give one dime to his ministry until I did.
“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily will shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgement now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not” 2Peter2:1-3
Please go read the entire chapter, for verses 10-22 describe these false teachers exactly as they are today!!! Remarkable!!! What a mighty God we are privilaged to serve!!!!

I marvel at christians who seem to think that “heresy” is limited to a false doctrine. Doctrine and teaching ARE important but they take second place to love and compassion. What good is your correct doctrine and teaching if you have a hateful spirit and an ungodly attitude? I do think Benny Hinn teaches false doctrine but I think EVERY teacher in America does as well. We form these little glee clubs and social groups that huddle around one man’s teaching while we sit on the pews and soak it up. The body of Christ is an organism..not an organisation. My heart goes out to Mrs. Forester and I will pray for her.
Benny Hinn claims that none of the money raised by his Ministry is used for his personal use. He is a liar. It is widely known, for instance that he and his wife stayed in a hotel in Venice for one night and it cost $10,000. He is a master charlatan and why he hasn’t been run out of town by now is beyond me. Stay away for Benny Hinn and his ilk.
I AM SURPRISE THAT THERE HAVN’T BEEN ANY CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS AGAINST BENNY HINN FOR MAKING MISLEADING AND FALSE STATEMENTS CONCERNING HEALINGS OR USING DECEPTIVE PRACTICES TO MANIPULATE AND CAUSE EMOTION SUFFERING TO THOSE WHO FIND OUT LATER THAT THE PROMISE HEALING DID NOT HAPPEN. AT LEST WE CAN BE ASSURED THAT THE DEEPEST PIT IN HELL AND THE GREATEST TORMENTS AWAIT THOSE WHO ARE REALY WOLVES IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING AND WHO PREYING UPON THE SHEEP FOR THEIR OWN WEALTH. AT THE END OF THE AGE, MANY FALSE PROPHETS WILL APPEAR AND DECEIVE MANY PEOPLE. MATT. 7:22 MANY WILL SAY TO ME ON THAT DAY, LORD, LORD DID WE NOT PROPHESY IN YOUR NAME, AND IN YOUR NAME DRIVE OUT DEMONS AND PERFORMM MANY MIRACLES?’ THEN I WILL TELL THEM PLAINLY, ‘I NEVER KNEW YOU. AWAY FROM ME YOU EVILDOERS!” HOW MANY POOR PEOPLE IN CHRIST WHO WENT TO BENNY HINN WOULD ACTUALLY RECEIVE ANYTHING FROM HIM?
Benny Hinn is probably the most documented as fake, fake going.
It is a sign of the times, that so many are into the word of faith cult, to the likes of benny hinn, that make so many excuses for his Godless nature/character and blasphemies, false prophecies and money making con tricks etc.
As Jesus said, the last day would not come untill the falling away.
The majority of those fallen away have no idea they are no longer christian (if they ever were that is).
