The Way of Cain - Page 20New teachings in the Christian Church- Where are They Leading Us?
The Toronto Blessing is called an ''anointing.'' Specifically, it is called a ''transferable anointing'' because it is passed from one person who has 'it' to another who accepts 'it,' usually by the laying on of hands or ''slaying in the spirit.'' It does not spontaneously happen in a new place, it is spread from one person to another.
The receiving of the ''Anointing'' is called ''impartation.'' The following prophecy from Doug Fortune, a ''prophetic worship leader,'' entitled ''Impartation,'' gives a clear picture of what is entailed. Listen carefully to this spirit that spoke through Mr. Fortune
''Receive from Me and do not resist* as I manifest Myself, My essence in you. Many times I must take My people to a state where their mind is incapacitated and their body immovable as they lie prostrate before Me. For in this state I can impart my essence directly into your spirit without having to pass through the gates of your mind and your body. As I breathe into your spirit, many times the body reacts with physical motion and your mind reacts with visions. Those who force everything to filter through their finite mind have much difficulty receiving impartation from Me.''
[* An Interesting Note: Does God ever demand that we ''not resist'' him in the scriptures? Possibly He does not because it is not possible. Yet see Jms 4:7, 1Pet 5:9, Eph 6:13.]
The experience described here is completely foreign to anything described or instructed in the Bible!
Note that the spirit is addressing himself to Christians (''My people'')- directing them to set their minds aside and allow him to come into them, and to expect weird physical symptoms.
As Christians, we already received the Holy Spirit when we believed- we cannot receive the person of the Holy Spirit again, He is not a substance dispensed one dose at a time- we have either received Him or we have not. And there is no requirement to set our minds aside- it was with our minds that we understood and believed the gospel and thereby received the Holy Spirit.
Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God... 1Co 6:19-20
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God... 1Co 2:12.
We are never to receive any other spirit!
But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ... if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received... 2Cor 11:3-4
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits... 1Tim 4:1
