LOS ANGELES - Before signing multi-million dollar movie contracts, buying a new mansion or even embarking on a love affair, superstars such as Robert De Niro, Madonna and Cher all go supernatural.
A new breed of mystic marvels, spiritualists and soothsayers are taking over the lives of major-league celebrities -- and horrified showbiz agents dare not say a word against them. Having a personal psychic has become the trendiest accessory in town. Huge decisions can rest on the flick of a tarot card, a voice from the grave or a message from a crystal ball. "You don't mess with these guys," said a studio executive from Warner Bros. "I might think it's mumbo jumbo, but some big names have got locked into this phenomenon and these people are acquiring an ever-disturbing amount of power and influence." The best psychics never advertise -- their names just become known. Madonna tells Courteney Cox Arquette who tells Kirstie Alley who meets Mel G at a party and so it goes on. Incredibly, many of Hollywood's leading mystics appear to have "uncanny abilities" to predict the future with some degree of accuracy. Zach Cohen, a producer who's now a firm believer, said, "Initially, I was like everyone else and thought it was complete nonsense -- but now I'm not so sure. (...) While superstars John Travolta and Tom Cruise swear by Ron L Hubbard's Scientology religious system, most celebs prefer consultations with private psychics behind closed doors. (...) Beatrice Marot went beyond her normal duties as a psychic to Robert De Niro. They ended up in bed together. "I had a premonition it would happen," said the French clairvoyant. "It was fate." (...) She said: "I use the ancient teaching of 'Joyotish' to predict their future. This science uses light to find out how people can prosper from their talents and skills. I specialize in dealing with people from the entertainment industry. Most of them are insecure because of the very nature of the business." She went on: "To be a good psychic you need to have integrity, honesty and love ... it's my destiny to do this type of work." Cher look-a-like Brenda Matarazzo is a woman with a grand title. She is known as Lady Brenda Matarazzo, High Priestess and founder of the Grove of the Green Cobra. For more than 20 years, Matarazzo, who also teaches classes in Wicca, Druidism and Egyptian Magic, has been predicting the future using tarot cards and a crystal ball. Such celebrities as Alley, Pamela De Barres and former Motown chief Barry Gordy travel hundreds of kilometres to seek her advice. (...) Universal Studios recently called on her to perform a whole series of psychic readings. Veronica's Closet star Alley treks 100 km from Hollywood to Matarazzo's temple in San Bernadino for glimpses into her cosmic future. (...) Standing literally head and shoulders above all other psychics in L.A. is 6-foot-6 Andrei Ridgeway, a giant among Tinseltown's tarot card readers. His private celebrity client list includes Jerry Seinfeld, Gena Rowlands, Linda Fiorentino and five cast members of the TV show Beverly Hills 90210. He answers questions on love, life and spirituality from the rich and famous. (...) Ridgeway -- who recently completed his first book, Psychic Living -- places a heavy influence on intuition with his clients. He claims his interpretation of the cards can help point people in the right direction and give them strong wake-up calls about their health or destructive relationships. (...) Pint-sized British psychic Christian Dion is a little man with a big gift for predicting the future. Born into a working class family in Wakefield, Yorkshire, Dion discovered he had special powers at the tender age of five. He would dream about his street playmates and what they'd say and do the next day -- and most times it happened. His parents, who both claimed to have clairvoyant powers, convinced him it was a talent and not to be afraid of it. Now based in Los Angeles, the colourful medium boasts a client list that includes Sharon Stone, George Michael and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. (...) Dion claims his mind works like radar, picking up information on people from a higher force. He has accurately predicted a string of political changes in Britain and the United States and warned in advance of the devastating 1995 Japanese earthquake. He also declared in advance the Gulf War would be over in 1,000 hours. [...more...] [Need the full story? Read this]
