NEW DELHI, India, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Police in India suspect a self-styled "god man" of beheading his son in a gory occult ritual to appease the god and gain supernatural powers. Authorities have arrested 46-year-old Chandrasekharan, who was allegedly holding the head of his 20-year-old son Shanmuga Sundaram after chopping it off with a sword and chanting hymns while sitting in front of portraits of deities.

Police officers said Chandrasekharan has confessed to killing his son because he dreamed he would gain supernatural powers if he did so. He is being charged with murder.
