Rome - The wife of controversial Zambian Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo went to St Peter's Square in a wheelchair on the fifth day of a hunger strike on Sunday and prayed to be reunited with her husband.

"She can no longer stand up and went to pray outside the Vatican Basilica in a wheelchair," said South Korean ambassador Yang Il-bae, who has been mediating between Milingo's Korean wife, Maria Sung, and the Vatican, which bans Catholic clergy from marrying.

Sung launched a hunger strike on Tuesday to press demands to see her husband after the Vatican said Milingo had decided to leave her.
